Resident Evil 6 review

Again, I want to say in advance that I liked the game. For me it became a candidate for game of the year. Despite the disadvantages, the ambiguity of some points, the game is GOOD. For fans of the series this is generally super, but for ordinary players it’s just a good project.

Let’s move on to the article itself

A little less than a year ago, we didn’t even know that the new, full-fledged ninth part of the main line of the Resident Evil series would be released so soon. The new part was announced and information about it flowed like a river. The developers from Capcom promised a lot: they say, we will return to horror, and there will be modern wow effects, and “we will try to please all players, even those who are not yet familiar with the series.”. Then a lot of videos started showing new gameplay features, showing us the main characters, etc.d. All the players started discussing the game. Topics were created on the forum, like: “New part – death of the series or its rebirth?", or: "Discussion of new gameplay features".

The main advantage of the series, according to the developers, was the introduction of three story campaigns, the narration of which will be given to different characters familiar to us from the previous parts of the series. Familiar, isn’t it?? After all, in 2010, the developers from Rebelion promised us the same thing. Like, three campaigns, three sides to the conflict, three main characters belonging to different races, but in reality we got a simple plot, completed in 5 hours, without any interesting ideas. A simple shooter, with poor stealth elements and a lot of gunplay.

Honestly, I expected the same result from the new game from Capcom. What did we get in the end?? Did the developers manage to regain interest in the series, were they able to raise it to the top?? Let’s look at the whole game in detail and find out whether it can be called successful, or is it a “failure of the year”.

1. Promised Campaigns

Campaign for Leon and Helena.

A campaign touted as a return to https://phfuncasino.co.uk/ the series’ roots. It promised atmosphere, slow zombies, and a lack of ammo. Yes, the developers tried and they succeeded. From the very beginning we are greeted by a couple of zombies in an abandoned house. There are practically no living people left and Leon and his partner need to get out of the city, and get out quickly, since the infection has just begun and there are more and more zombies every minute. The main disadvantage is that only the first two chapters of the campaign are interesting to watch. While the heroes move through a dark city engulfed in fire and epidemic, it really looks very cool. But when they find another “secret, underground laboratory”, and the main motivation of the characters becomes: “Oh God, he killed my sister, Leon, help me kill the main villain, otherwise he won’t infect the whole world with a new virus,” the plot sags completely. The final boss is oh-so-long.

Indeed, in addition to the fact that we “kill” him in chapter 4, he is resurrected in the fifth and we have to “kill” him 3 more times. Well, it’s too much, this principle of combat was introduced to extend the game for another hour.

Conclusion: wanted to “return the game to its roots” and this worked, although only for the first two chapters.

Campaign for Chris and Piers.

Initially it became clear that this campaign is for fans of the fifth part of the game. “Take cover, roll”, these two words can describe her. It seems that you can safely skip it, but no. I think it turned out better than when playing as Leon. Chris now has a motivation for his actions. Starting with the order, ending with revenge for the murder of his squad. As ridiculous as it may sound, this is the only campaign where the hero’s motive for his actions is revealed. There is no reason for “let’s go kill the main villain… just like that”. I really want to worry and sympathize with Chris.

And when Pierce becomes infected and remains in the laboratory, the faint of heart may shed a tear.

Conclusion: it seems that the campaign can be cut, but this is wrong. It’s generally worth going through first, and not because the plot of the entire game begins with it.

Campaign for Jake and Sherry.

A new character was introduced into the game universe, who had not previously appeared in the game universe. Son of Albert Wesker, who was killed by us in the fifth part. Jake doesn’t know about his origins, and he doesn’t need it. Works as a mercenary, jumps on the ledges, ala Prince of Persia, and by the end of the game saves the world. The game correctly noted: “The son of a man who wanted to destroy the world suddenly saves it.”. According to Capcom, this is an experimental campaign to introduce a sophisticated hand-to-hand combat system into the game. The first two chapters of the campaign are similar to the campaign for Leon. The same guns, the same locations, the same shootouts. There is no horror, but the atmosphere of the zombie apocalypse is successfully preserved. But from the beginning of the third chapter the game changes. Jake discovers his origins

and, for half a year spent in captivity,

completely changes its combat system. And he changes it for the better. When controlled with three buttons, Jake is capable of producing five or six strike combos, without using any weapons available to him at all. Having adopted the style of his father, the need for weapons completely disappears. By the end of the game my entire inventory was full of ammunition and explosives. Even the last boss, which looked like another modification of Nemesis, was defeated in hand-to-hand combat.
Conclusion: the experiment was a success, definitely.

You can finish the campaigns here, although no, after completing the campaign, the campaign for Ada Wong opens. From the very beginning they wanted to make her the main antagonist of the game. During the passage of the main three plots, it seems so, but passing through Ada, all the cards are revealed. And this chapter reveals that very return to the roots. One player, surrounded by slow and, after Chapter 2, fast zombies, solves puzzles and wanders through dungeons and catacombs (not to be confused with laboratories).
I won’t talk in detail about the plots of all the characters, because people who have completed the game already know them, and for those who have not completed it, I have an announcement at the beginning of the article.

Cooperative can be highlighted as a separate item. Almost unchanged since the fifth part, several features have been added. The first is that the bots in the game are immortal and they have endless ammo. Since their intelligence has not been improved, the developers simply allowed us not to monitor them and do not worry. They themselves will not die, and all things now drop out differently for each player. The bot will not pick up your grenade, since it is not visible to him at all. The point is controversial, on the one hand, the hardcore disappeared, when it was necessary to even keep an eye on the bot, on the other hand, due to his intelligence, by the end of the game this running after him would begin to get boring. The moment is ambiguous.

The second innovation to the cooperative was the addition of a cooperative for 3-4 players. The point is that heroes from different campaigns intersect with each other, and even several times. It is at these moments that a search for a partner occurs and, if a player playing for the second pair is found, then individual parts of the campaign can be completed together. The main disadvantage of this moment is that in a couple of months it will be impossible to find a partner. The likelihood that there will be a player playing exactly the moment you need in a completely unrelated campaign is EXTREMELY SMALL!

Capcom understood that the plot would be difficult to follow and it would be difficult to understand who was going in what order now. For this purpose, a chronological tree was introduced, available in the menu. It marks all the videos and events related to the game, so following the plot has become much better. A trifle, but, as they say, it’s nice.
Such minor features as shooting on the move and with two hands were also introduced, but this does not deserve special attention. Little things.
